What is SOMA Breath®
SOMA Breath is Active Meditation: Conscious Breathing – Music – Rhythm.
It is a holistic method that combines rhythmic breathing in time to specially composed music with meditation and guided imagery/visualization (neurosomatic programming). This powerful combination helps you to strengthen and balance your nervous system and activate your inner “pharmacy” of feel-good hormones. For deep relaxation, clear thoughts, and natural energy.
You activate your self-healing powers, strengthen your inner resilience, and learn to step beyond your usual comfort zone, step by step – in a way that feels safe and aligned.
“Your breath is the bridge – between body and essence, between thought and being.”
This breath practice promotes oxygen utilization efficiency, improves carbon dioxide tolerance, and strengthens the mind-body connection. Ancient Pranayama techniques are combined with scientifically proven methods to achieve
Flexible and adaptable to individual needs
SOMA Breath is a holistic system of Pranayama techniques that can be flexibly combined depending on the type of workshop/session and is always tailored to your individual needs. There is no “one size fits all” – every person is unique and needs different breathing techniques, depending on what best supports them at the moment.
The “Scientific” Explanation of Breathwork’s Effects
“Breathwork, a practice with deep roots in ancient traditions, is increasingly coming into focus in the modern wellness world – primarily due to its impressive effects on mental and physical health. At its core, breathwork means consciously controlling your breath to influence your physical and psychological state. The result: more well-being, more balance, and less stress.
The scientific basis of breathwork primarily lies in its ability to regulate your autonomic nervous system – the system that controls automatic bodily functions such as heart rate or digestion. Through targeted breathing, you can switch from the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) – the fight-or-flight mode – to the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), which is responsible for rest, regeneration, and “rest and digest”.
This switch is essential for stress reduction: It lowers your cortisol levels, stabilizes your blood pressure, and brings you into a state of calm and inner release.
Breathwork also affects your brain chemistry. Controlled breathing boosts oxygen flow to the brain, enhancing your cognitive performance and emotional stability. Furthermore, endorphins are released – your natural mood boosters and “painkillers.” This way, breathwork helps elevate your mood and reduce feelings of anxiety. Additionally, deep diaphragmatic breathing enhances lung function and your body’s oxygen supply.
Research in psychophysiology also confirms the effects of breathwork on mental health. Techniques like Pranayama, a central component in yoga, show significant effects on anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“Through the interplay of mindfulness, presence, and a higher state of consciousness, breathwork can help you process emotions better and become more resilient.” (Source: SOMA Breath®)
