Breathe: Not just to survive – but to feel yourself?
Conscious breathing and why true self-connection is not a luxury
In a world where many of us are trapped in “functioning mode”, we often lose touch with what really sustains us: our inner voice, our breath, our body. Perhaps you know the feeling of being tired – not just physically, but deep down inside. You wake up and still feel empty. You are there for everyone, but where are you?
What if the answer was very close? In you. In your breath.
As busy people, we often rush through everyday life, breathe shallowly and lose ourselves in the outside world. Yet the key to inner balance lies right under our nose: in our breath.
Conscious breathing is your most powerful tool
Studies show: Slow, rhythmic breathing activates the vagus nerve, which provides relaxation, self-healing and inner stability. Conscious breathing techniques such as SOMA Breath regulate your nervous system, increase your energy and promote mental clarity.
Your breath is like an inner compass. The more consciously you use it, the clearer your path becomes.
Why breathwork is so powerful – also (and especially) for “head people”
Many people think of breathwork in terms of spiritual practices or intense experiences. But the power of your breath is universal and scientifically proven. Your breath is not just a tool to survive – it’s your reset button. No guru, no retreat, no dogma. Just you – and your next breath.
What your breath can do for you:
- Calms your nervous system: slow, conscious breathing activates your vagus nerve and brings you into a state of deep relaxation.
- Gives you energy – without any coffee: rhythmic breathing supplies your body with oxygen, leaving you feeling refreshed and alert.
- Brings you back to yourself: your breath connects you with your body and your inner voice so that you can feel again what is really important to you.
What you can do right now – A breathing prompt for your daily life
Invitation to Try – Extended Exhalation for Deep Relaxation
Close your eyes and first let your breath flow naturally. Breathe in gently in your rhythm… breathe out… and consciously feel into this moment. Simply allow yourself to be here.
Now breathe in the following rhythm:
- Inhale: 4 seconds through your nose (mouth closed) into your belly. Your belly gently rises (only then, gently, your chest).
- Exhale: 8 seconds through your mouth, gently and steadily. Imagine you are blowing through a straw.
- Visualization: With each exhale, you release tension, heaviness, and burdens. With each inhale, you draw calm, clarity, and energy into your body.
- Duration: 1-3 minutes. Perfect for everyday use.
Note:
Alternatively, you can also breathe in for 2 seconds and out for 4 seconds or in for 4 seconds and out for 6 seconds (depending on what is best possible for you right now, according to your constitution. Without pressure, without tension — gently and rhythmically. It is important that the exhalation lasts longer than the inhalation.
Imagine your breath is like an anchor in the middle of a stormy ocean.
